Registered as a Ironstone Miner aged 21 living 60 William Street, Eston with his parents John Thomas aged 49 & Phobe aged 47; siblings: John Thomas 15, Alfred David 13, Florence Emma 12, Arthur William 10, Amy 8, Charles Victor 4

Invalid home early in November, before the end of the War in 1918, WW1
Recent research has shown that Private Beckett is buried here. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.
Private Beckett's service record in the army in WW1 has not survived the London bombing in WW2.
He was serving in France by 25.8.1915 which means he won the 1915 Star, the Victory and the British War Medal.
The regiment was the Northumberland Fusiliers, and his number 3/9037 all through the years he served.
He probably enlisted in 1914 and served till some time in October 1918 when sent home
The death certificate shows he died at 59 William Street, Eston on 2.11.1918 from influenza and pneumonia, in the presence of his doctor and a brother, B. Beckett of 80 California, Eston. There is only one brother this could be - (the eldest son of the Beckett family was Bertie, b. 1883).
Poor Albert was 29 years old. Regn. 9D, page1209 at Middlesbrough.
Many, many soldiers died from the infuenza towards the end of WW1
The local paper, the North Eastern Daily Gazette, reported his death on page 4 Barely readable, but it was inserted - "cortege to leave 59 William Street on Monday at 2.30 p.m." 4th November 1918.
