THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Joseph Gutteridge of Denmark Hill Camberwell in the
County of Surrey Esquire. I give devise and bequeath unto James Smith of Watford in the County of Hertford paper maker and William Lepard Smith of James Street Covent Garden in the County of Middlesex Stationer the two nephews of my late deceased wife all that my freehold Manor and estate situate at Wheathamsted cum Harpenden in the County of Hertford now on lease to Thomas Kidman Junior and also all those my three copyhold cottages situate at Down Green in the parish of Wheathamstead aforesaid now in the occupation of William Webb and others And also all that my freehold estate consisting of seven houses situate in Nelson Square in the parish of Christchurch in the County of Surrey and numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 13 and the ground rents issuing thereout with all the rights and appurtenances to the same a Manor and hereditaments respectively belonging To hold unto the said James Smith and William Lepard Smith their heirs and assigns To such uses for such estate and estates and upon and for such trusts interests and purposes and charged and chargeable in such manner and form as my daughter Sarah Nash shall at any time or times or from time to time and whether coverte or sole by any deed or deeds under her hand and seal and to be attested by one or more credible witness or witnesses or by her last Will and Testament or any codicil or codicils thereto direct or appoint and in default of such direction or appointment and a subject to any such which shall not be a complete disposition of the fee simple and inheritance of the said premises To the uses and upon the trusts following that is to say to the use of the said James Smith and William Lepard Smith their heirs and assigns during the life of my said daughter Sarah Nash upon trust from time to time to pay the rents and profits of the said several estates unto my said daughter Sarah Nash for her life for her separate use and free from the debts control and engagements of her present or any future husband with whom she may intermarry and so that during any such marriage she shall have no power to alien or anticipate the said rents and profits or any part thereof and from and after the decease of my said daughter To the use of the said James Smith and William Lepard Smith their heirs and assigns for ever in equal moieties as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and I declare that the receipt or receipts of my said daughter alone whether coverte or sole or of the person or persons whom she may appoint to receive the said rents and profits shall be good and sufficient discharges for the same rents and profits or such part thereof as in such receipt or receipts shall be expressed to be received I give devise and bequeath unto my niece Esther Jacobson late of Watford but now of Kingsland Road in the County of Middlesex Spinster one clear annuity of One hundred pounds per annum for her life and to Sarah Jacobson now of Kingland Road aforesaid the widow of my late nephew William Jacobson one clear annuity of fifty pounds per annum during her life and to my servant Sarah Pearson for her great care and attention to my dear deceased wife one clear annuity of twenty five pounds per annum during her life and to my servant Mary Mills one clear annuity of twenty pounds per annum during her life and to my servant John Tidy one clear annuity of twenty pounds per annum during his life I give the following legacies to the Religious and Benevolent Societies hereinafter described that is to say to the particular Baptist Fund in London the Managers of which meet at No 6 Fen Court Fenchurch Street the sum of two hundred pounds to the Baptist Academical Institution at Stepney Green of which the Reverend William Harris Murch is the principal Tutor the sum of Two hundred pounds to the Baptist Missionary Society meeting at Fen Court aforesaid the sum of two hundred pounds, to the fund established in the year one thousand seven hundred and thirty three for the relief of the widows of Dissenting Ministers the sum of one hundred pounds, to the Governors of the Orphan working School in the City Road the sum of one hundred pounds, to the Ministers and Deacons for the time being of the Church of Protestant Dissenters of the Baptist denomination Meeting at Little Prescott Street Goodmans Fields London the sum of fifty pounds for the poor of that Church and Congregation and I direct that five pounds (part of the last mentioned sum) be paid to Mrs Palmer the preceptor of the Meeting House there and that the residue be distributed among the said poor at the discretion of the said Minister and Deacons And give to the said Minister and Deacons for the time beinfg of the Church of Protestant Dissenters of the Baptist Denomination meeting in Cold Harbour Lane Camberwell fifty pounds for the poor of that church and Congregation of which the Reverend Edward Steane is now Minister And I direct that the said legacies respectively shall be paid to the Treasurers for the time being of the said several institutions to be applied to the general purposes thereof respectively And I direct that the said several legacies shall be paid out of such parts of my personal estate as may as legally be devoted to Charitable purposes I also give and bequeath to the several persons hereinafter named the following legacies that is to say Mrs Emma Jackson the widow of Samuel Jackson late of Dorking in Surrey Esquire one hundred pounds to the Reverend Thomas Griffin of Hitchin in Hertfordshire Dissenting Minister fifty pounds to the Reverend George Pritchard of Pentonville Dissenting Minister fifty pounds, to the Reverend Edward Steane of Camberwell Grove Surrey Dissenting Minister one hundred pounds, to the Reverend Charles Stovell Paster of the said Baptist Church in Little Prescott Street aforesaid one hundred pounds, to Richard Boswell Beddome of Nicholas Lane London Gentleman one hundred pounds Miss Jane Beddome for some time past residing in my family fifty pounds, to the said James Smith my Executor two hundred pounds and to the said William Lepard Smith my Executor two hundred pounds each and to Mary Esther Smith the only child of the said William Lepard Smith five hundred pounds and if either of the said children of James Smith and William Lepard Smith respectively shall be under twenty one years of age at my decease I direct my Executors to pay the legacies of those minors to their respective fathers to be paid by them with interest to their children as they come of age I bequeath to John Green my gardner nineteen pounds nineteen shillings I direct that the legacy duty chargeable upon all the legacies and annuities bequeathed by this my will be paid by my executors out of my residuary personal estate I give and devise all the real estate which is now vested in me as Trustee or Mortgagee unto the said James Smith and William Lepard Smith their heirs and assigns subject nevertheless to the trusts and equities offering the same respectively I give and devise and bequeath all the rest and residue of my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said dear daughter Sarah Nash her heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature thereof respectively for her and their own absolute use and benefit And I appoint my said daughter and her husband Wedd William Nash Esquire and the said James Smith and William Lepard Smith Executrix and Executors of this my Will In Witness whereof I the said Joseph ~Gutteridge the testator have to this my last will and testament comprised in four sheets of paper set my hand this twentieth day of
