Edwin Sidney was born on Monday the 20th January, 1873, at his Parent's Home (Cropton & Caroline) at Council Street, Newcastle; the Delivery was assisted by Mrs. Smith, the Midwife.
He commenced Casual Employment with the N.S.W. Government Railways as a Cleaner, on the 7th of april, 1891, for 5 Shillings a day, at the Penrith Locomotive Roundhouse.
On the 20th of April, 1892, his Services were dispensed with because of overstaffing and was re-employed on probation on the 1st July, 1899, as a Cleaner at the Locomotive Roundhouse, Armidale, for 5 Shillings a Day.

On the 2nd of October the same year, he Married Violet Evelyn Heard a Spinster from Penrith, aged 20, at Christ Church, Tenterfield, by the Officiating Church of England Minister, H. Granville Smith. Consent to the Marriage was granted by her Father, William Austin Heard and Witnessed by her Mother Louisa Heard (nee Baldwin) and G. A. Smith.
His Permanency was confirmed on the 24th of January. 1900, with a increase in his Wage to Six Shillings a Day.

Their first Child, who was named after his Father, Edwin Sidney was born at Manners Street, Tenterfield on Saturday the 20th of October,1900.
On the 13th of September, 1901, he was promoted to Fireman, working as an offsider aboard the local Steam Trains, and on the 22nd October he was transferred to Murrurundi; his Wage was then 8 Shillings a Day It was here that their last two Children were born, Cyril Sunderland on Saturday the 19th of July, 1902, and Clarence Wilfred on Tuesday the 26th of April, 1904, at their Home in a small Village on the south side of Murrurundi called Haydonton.

Shortly after the birth of their third Child the Family split up, the solitude of the Country, away from her Family and Friends, being constantly pregnant and having to raise and bear three Children over a period of three and a half Years was too much for Violet; she left Haydonton and her two older Children and fled to her Parent's Home at Penrith with the Clarence, the Baby.

On the 30th of September, 1904, his request to transfer to Sydney and seek full custody of his Children was granted, he took up duty at Eveleigh Running Sheds as a Fireman on the 30th of September, 1904, and residence at 59 Marrickville Road, Marrickville.

The Marriage, No. 9040/99, was Dissolved by Decree of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, on 17th of December, 1909 - Register No. 6775 - Husband, Petitioner was granted full custody of the three Children.
During the year of 1910 he took himself another Wife, Sarah Charlton an old School friend who was Widowed with a five year old Daughter, called Lily.

He was Dismissed by Proclamation on the 14th of August, 1917, for leaving work to join other Unionists who were striking against the introduction of a Time Card for all Transport Employees.
Following protacted disputation he was re-employed on the 7th October 1917, as a Steam Train Driver at Eveleigh Running.

He remained at Eveleigh Running until his Retirement on the 18th of February, 1933, with a Service of 37 Years and 8 Days, his Salary was then 2 Shillings/6 Pence & 6/11ths. per Hour.

On Thursday the 26th of September, 1942, he died of a Heart Attack in Marrickville Hospital, and was Creamated following a private Service. Probate (No. 273188) was granted to his Wife, Sarah, on the 6th of November, 1942.
